Privacy policy

Concierhere is an in-room information service for hotels, guesthouses and holiday rentals. It has two parts: the Concierhere app on Apple TV, which guests see in their room, and the Concierhere portal, where hosts manage what their TVs show. Concierhere is operated by Aligned Innovation (Pty) Ltd in South Africa (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what information we handle, why, and your rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and other applicable laws.

Guests using the Apple TV app

The app does not ask guests for any personal information. It has no sign-in, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking.

To show the right content, the app sends us details about the TV itself, not about the person watching:

• an identifier for the Apple TV (Apple's app-specific device identifier and, on hotel-managed TVs, its serial number)
• the Apple TV model and the app version
• the time it last checked for updates

We use these only to link the TV to the right property and room, keep its content up to date, and show the host whether the TV is online. The app also gets the local weather forecast from Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) using the property's location, not the guest's. As with any website, Open-Meteo and our hosting providers receive the TV's internet address when it connects.

The information on screen, such as the Wi-Fi password, house rules and recommended places, is provided by the host of the property, who is responsible for it.

Hosts and staff using the portal

When a host or their staff use the portal, we hold:

• your email address, name (if given) and a securely stored password
• which sites you can manage and your role (site admin or user)
• the content you add for your sites, including text, images, places and messages
• your site's plan details (status and number of TVs)
• basic security records, such as failed attempts to add a TV

We use this to provide the service, keep your account secure, send you service emails such as invitations and password resets, and contact you about your account. We do not sell personal information or use it for advertising.

Who we share information with

We use trusted service providers to run Concierhere:

• Supabase: database, sign-in and image storage
• Vercel: hosting for the portal and the service the TVs connect to
• Our email provider: sending invitations and password resets
• Open-Meteo: weather forecasts (receives only the property location)

Some of these providers store or process information outside South Africa. Where they do, we rely on their contractual and security commitments to protect it to a standard comparable to POPIA. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

How long we keep information

• Portal accounts and site content: for as long as the account or site is active, and then deleted on request or when the service ends.
• Apple TVs that are never linked to a site: deleted automatically after 30 days without activity.
• Security records about adding TVs: deleted after 30 days.

Security

All connections are encrypted (HTTPS). Each site's information is separated at database level so that one site cannot see another's TVs, content or users. TVs use individual access keys, and we store only a scrambled (hashed) version of each.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, or object to how we use it, by emailing support@alignedinnovation.co.za. If you are a guest and have a question about the content shown on a TV, please contact the property where you are staying. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa (inforegulator.org.za).

Children

Concierhere does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The Apple TV app collects no personal information from anyone watching it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be emailed to portal users.
